World Heart Rhythm Awareness Day
ANDOVER, MA, MAY 9, 2007: HeartScreen America, Inc. today announced its support of World Heart Rhythm Awareness Day - June 13, 2007. World Awareness Day is coordinated by Arrhythmia Alliance, The Heart Rhythm Charity based in the United Kingdom and is supported by organizations and foundations advocating for awareness and screenings around the world. This annual event strives to increase knowledge about heart rhythm disorders, which can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.
According to their website, last year over 165 events were held in the UK to promote awareness of heart rhythm disorders. In the US, it has been estimated that sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) claims at least 5,000 young lives each year. An electrocardiogram (ECG), a simple, painless test, can help detect heart abnormalities that may lead to cardiac arrhythmias which in turn, can lead to SCA.
HeartScreen America offers community heart screenings that include an ECG, family and personal heart health questionnaire, blood pressure reading and BMI calculation. All ECGs are reviewed by a board-certified cardiologist.
